Aggregation

Serial code aggregation is a key element in optimizing logistics operations, ensuring traceability, and improving supply chain transparency. This process establishes a hierarchical relationship among different logistic units (items, bundles, cases, pallets) using unique serial numbers organized in a “parent/child” structure. By scanning the serial code of an aggregated container, all the units contained within can be quickly identified.

Serial codes are applied to containers, such as bottle caps, using various technologies, including laser or inkjet printing. Among these, UV ink—invisible to the human eye—is particularly useful for minimizing aesthetic impact; in such cases, the system is equipped with a UV lamp and a camera with a UV filter.

The serial numbers of individual containers are then collected into an aggregated code, which is typically printed on a label or directly applied to the packaging. The system utilizes two vision systems: one camera reads all the codes on the bottle caps simultaneously, while another scans the label applied to the package. The software links the scanned data, establishing the hierarchy between the codes.

This process is repeated at every packaging level: bundles or cases are aggregated into pallets. Thanks to this hierarchical structure, scanning a single code on the pallet allows access to every individual case, bundle, and item within it—significantly simplifying warehouse management, distribution, and reworking operations.

Serial aggregation provides a strong competitive advantage for companies in industries where combating counterfeiting, preventing grey markets, and ensuring product authenticity and supply chain transparency are essential.
