In-line control of serial codes applied to the body of unoriented products

This vision system allows the serial code on the body of the bottle to be detected and read, regardless of its orientation, and stored for subsequent steps.

In this type of application, bottles do not have a fixed orientation and carry a unique serial code on the container, which is essential for tracking throughout the entire production, distribution and verification process along the supply chain. Since the code can be in any position at the time of inspection, the system solves this complexity with six lateral cameras, which acquire the complete image of the bottle surface. In this way, the serial code is identified and validated with precision, regardless of its rotation.

The serial is then stored for subsequent steps, such as aggregation into secondary packaging. This process creates a parent-child relationship between the serial code of the bundle or case and those of the individual bottles contained within it.

For example, the system makes the serial numbers of the bottles just inspected available to the aggregation module present at the case packer equipped with a labelling module, located immediately downstream. The serial numbers are collected in an aggregate code, usually printed on a label or applied directly to the case. This aggregate code allows to quickly identify all the units inside it with a simple scan.

The system is compatible with different printing technologies, including laser, inkjet and UV. The latter option allows to make the code invisible to the naked eye, minimising the aesthetic impact. In this case, the system includes a camera with UV filter and a UV lamp, ensuring optimal code acquisition.
