PCS WINE

PCS WINE monitors oxygen and pressure in the headspace of the wine bottle to check the functionality of inerting systems and avoid the negative consequences of oxidation.

The oxygen gas present in the headspace of the bottle gradually dissolves in the wine, causing variations in its organoleptic characteristics (colour, taste, smell, etc.), compromising its quality and reducing its shelf-life.

In-line inerting systems, such as the use of inert gases (N2, Argon, and CO2) have the purpose of reducing or eliminating oxygen, but their correct functioning and dosage must be constantly and promptly monitored. In fact, a sample check at the end of production would be late, as it would only allow us to detect that what has already been produced is partially or totally compromised.

PCS WINE is the high performance in-line system designed to meet this need.

The measurement is based on an innovative application of laser spectroscopy, which uses a particular physical property of specific molecules in the gaseous state, i.e. the ability to absorb light only at particular wavelengths.

The laser beam, positioned at the correct height on the production line and adjusted to a wavelength specific to the oxygen molecule, passes through the bottle into the headspace. The extent to which the laser reaches the sensor allows the oxygen concentration and pressure to be calculated precisely and at full line speed.

The control takes place continuously, on 100% of the production and immediately after the capping/corking phase: this allows real-time intervention, avoiding the incorrect bottling of large quantities of wine with compromised organoleptic characteristics, quality and shelf-life.
