Inspection is based on laser spectroscopy, a method that exploits a peculiar characteristic of molecules in the gaseous state: their ability to absorb light only at specific wavelengths. This technic allows for rapid, direct, and precise inspection.
Using laser technology, it’s possible to precisely monitor the pressure in the headspace of each bottle, regardless of the type of cap or bottle material used. Furthermore, the solution is immune to slight variations in bottle positioning, caps, or conveyor belt, ensuring consistent reliability.
The system is installed after the bottling phase and is calibrated to detect the presence of a specific gas, depending on the product’s characteristics.
The production process of still water PET bottles involves adding a small amount of nitrogen immediately before capping, after filling. As nitrogen transitions from liquid to gaseous state, it increases in volume and, consequently, the internal pressure of the bottle, enhancing its mechanical strength.
PCS WATER is configured to check the correct pressure in the headspace due to the presence of nitrogen. Otherwise, the system will flag bottles with leaks, which are removed from the production line.
By measuring the pressure in the headspace, the system can also indicate a malfunction in the N2 doser. This is a crucial check as insufficient or excessive pressure causes bottle deformation, leading to issues related to transportation, look, long-term seal, and costs associated with product, container, and nitrogen wastage in case of overdosing.
The system provides real-time analysis of production trends, promptly detecting deviations that could lead to rejects and allowing the identification of their causes. For instance, it highlights any repeated deviations in dosage or capping at each cycle, enabling the identification of the specific dosing valve or capping head that requires attention.
