Glasstec is the largest glass tradeshow in the world, and we exhibited at the event. Our exhibit focused on the demonstration of our Volcano® glass inspection equipment, including our Sidewall, Sealing Surface, Base and Cyclops®, and our innovative new Check inspection system.

Volcano Check is an addition to Applied Vision’s Volcano® Sidewall (SW) and Volcano® Sealing Surface & Base (SSB) glass inspection technology. Applied Vision continues emphasis on assisting glass container manufacturers that want to improve their quality and manufacturing efficiencies through accuracy, reliability, and speed. Volcano Check, powered by Applied Vision technology, brings this critical defect into focus for the Antares Vision Group – Rigid Containers.

The new Volcano system completely changes the way plants inspect for checks by using two multi-axis imaging stations each built around patented illumination and optics. This new approach eliminates both the need for machine operators to manually align multiple sensors and the need for container-specific tooling required for container rotation. Like the Volcano SW and SSB systems, advanced learning and comparative algorithms combined with easily configured job settings and thresholds are utilized and saved within the container job file stored in the Volcano Check system. The job can be recalled with a touch of a button―no further setup is required. To support ease of use and help machine operators with their challenging tasks, we developed the following Volcano Check inspection tools offering compelling benefits:

  • A finish-specific tool providing the ability to make pass/fail decisions, while requiring no machine training or calibration. Instead, a simple setting adjustment for the bottle being inspected allows for fast job changeover.
  • A self-learning AI-based tool that is easily calibrated by taking an image without a container in the field of view. Users can then go online and prompt the tool to “train” and automatically start inspecting.

The combination of these patented tools and innovative optical layouts makes it possible to perform comprehensive check inspection using only two advanced imaging stations.

Volcano Check, SW, and SSB are designed as standalone or electronically coupled solutions as part of a thorough approach to glass container inspection. Because of this, navigating the systems’ family of software has the same feel and functionality. Simplified setup and intuitive operation make Volcano systems conducive to the efficient implementation of virtually any inspection sequence a glass container plant may require.

On its own, Volcano Check can change the way plants look for and detect even the most problematic checks while greatly reducing setup time, machine operator burden and unplanned downtime. Installed together, Volcano machines can provide mold-correlated statistics as well as image maps of check locations to give users a broader view of the container being inspected and a better idea of where problems may exist in the manufacturing process.
